Dunwoody Apartments — Luxury outside of Atlanta
Not far outside of Atlanta is a prestigious town named Dunwoody. It is affluent, well educated, and a highly coveted place to call home. If you are interested in relocating to this scenic suburb, it is important to know certain facts about its population and neighborhoods, as well as some of its history and culture.
Dunwoody is a suburb, with a small town feel, but it is close enough to Atlanta to maintain a metropolitan feel.
Dunwoody, Georgia, is a suburb of Atlanta, located 14 miles north of the bustling core of the metropolitan area. Predominately a white, professional community, it has a population of just over 32,000, according to the 2000 census, with a median household income of $82,838. More than 65% of residents over the age of 25 hold bachelor’s degrees, a far higher rate than in the U.S. or Georgia as a whole.
Dunwoody maintains its small town atmosphere through attention to amenities such as local parks, organizations and annual festivals. For those interested in more metropolitan offerings, however, Atlanta is just a short drive away. There, visitors and residents alike can find professional teams for just about any sport, theaters, museums and concert halls. For outdoor recreation, mild winters and hot summers make it easy to take advantage of the statewide network of parks and campsites.
Though it is considered by many to be primarily a residential community, Dunwoody also has a healthy business economy of its own. One of the Atlanta area’s five major clusters of high-rise office buildings, Perimeter Center, is found in the area, near the northern terminus of the Atlanta area subway’s north line. The unemployment rate is far below the national average, at 2.8%. Almost a quarter of all employed people in Dunwoody work in the scientific, management and administrative sectors. The finance, insurance and education industries are also major employers for Dunwoody residents.
