Atlanta Braves Fans?
Ted Turner did a great deal for the Atlanta Braves organization. He was largely responsible for turning the Braves into a 14 year dynasty. Because of this,Turner Field was named in his honor in 1997. He’s also donated more than $1 billion to charity.
Does he really deserve that honor though? He just recently called America an “imperial menace” and is a self-described “socialist at heart.” He even supports and defends oppressive dictatorships. He called Fidel Castro “one hell of a guy” and denies that Kim Jong Il runs quite possibly the most despotic and oppressive regime in the world. He is openly hostile towards Christianity, saying “Christianity is a religion for losers” and CNN employees observing Ash Wednesday are “Jesus Freaks.” He even compared the rising popularity of Fox News to Adolf Hitler’s effective use of propaganda in his rise to power.
I am a life-long Braves fan and it pisses me off that their stadium is named after him. Anyone else want it changed?

Coca Cola Field would be good, is a longtime Atlanta company and is All American. Oh, and I am a Republican. Go Braves!

I have lived in Georgia all my life and am a huge Braves fan. I asked my dad what he thought and he said he thinks it should be changed too. Go Braves and let the name be changed.

I am a Braves fan, and the news that you brought up here is very disturbing. The name of the Field should be changed. Heck, he never should have been considered for it in the first place. With Hank Aaron as the all time home run leader (At that time), it should have been named after him. . . Just my oppion!

Just because he has different political ideas than most people doesn’t mean he deserves to get stripped of the stadium name. Obviously I don’t agree with him on all of his comments but he helped the Braves because one of the most successful franchise ever. He deserves that honor.

I agree completely. He did do a lot for the Altana Braves organization. He was a great person. However, I think it is a little much for the Braves to be naming stadium after him.
You also brought up good points in saying that he described himself as a socialist at heart. He called america an imperial menace. He did quite a few other things that we would like to not have happened.
I too follow the Braves, and I wish their stadium was named something different. Nice question!

If you believe in the separation of baseball and politics than the name on the stadium is appropriate. I am not a Ted Turner fan for the reasons you point out but don’t believe his team or the fans of the Braves should suffer because of what he believes.

Get over it.
$1,000 says you’re a Republican. All you people do is complain.
