$17 for $35 Worth of Authentic Latin American Cuisine and Drink at Tierra

Though South and Central American cultures are known for their somber mannerisms and austere approach to life, the cuisine of our Southern neighbors inexplicably invokes memories of weeks-long parties and mouthwatering parades. With today’s Groupon, $17 gets you $35 worth of authentic Latin American cuisine at Tierra , the Atlanta Journal-Constitution ‘s 2008 Restaurant of the Year . Owned and operated by a husband-and-wife team, Tierra serves up the pan-Latin flavors of co-founder Ticha Krinsky’s South and Central American upbringing in delectable culinary delights sure to inspire hurricanes of besos and floods of joy-induced lagrimas . The weekly-changing menu offers authentic appetizers, such as black-bean soup ($5.75) with apple-cured bacon, platanos , and a dollop of crème fraiche, or a Salvadoran cheese pupusa ($4.50) with a lightly fermented cabbage relish. Enticing entrees may include a Chilean beer-battered, sautéed flounder ($21.50) with a fiery mayo, grilled beef tenderloin ($24.50) with refried red beans and fried plantains, and grilled pork medallions ($21.50) with tropical-fruit relish and chipotle mashers. If the meal has you forlorn and weighted down by memories of teen years spent strumming a banjo on the Veracruz boardwalk, cheer up with a moist and milky slice of Tierra’s signature tres leches cake ($7) or the Cuban coffee flan ($6). Wash everything down with a selection from Tierra’s wine menu , which features a variety of Chilean, Argentinean, and Spanish reds and whites available by the glass (starting at $6) or by the bottle ($20 and up). The intimate, red-walled eatery occupies an unassuming yellow storefront that is juxtaposed with elegant framed photographs and crisp white linens inside. The co-owners and co-chefs keep their menu fresh by traveling twice yearly to Latin America to reacquaint themselves with local cuisine, network with local chefs, and catch up on the latest trends in ski wear and snowless snow-angels. This Groupon is not valid for half-price wine nights or prix-fixe menu specials. Groupon Says Magically Delicious Excuse me, waiter. How many books has this porterhouse read? Read more…
