Chicago Bulls Tickets – Blooming Rose
When the Chicago Bulls won the 2008 NBA Draft lottery despite having the eleventh-best odds of doing so, it gave Chicago fans hope, but it also sparked a big debate in The Windy City. The question of whom to select with the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft did not seem to have a clear-cut answer. When the dust of the NCAA season and pre-draft workouts had settled, the choice came down to two freshmen. Kansas State forward Michael Beasley put up some of the gaudiest numbers ever seen in a collegiate basketball season, scoring and rebounding almost effortlessly against any competition. With the Bulls’ lack of interior scoring and Beasley’s utter dominance at the college level, many NBA pundits saw the young forward as a great fit for the franchise. But, during the same season, a Chicago-born point guard by the name of Derrick Rose had led his Memphis team to the National Title game in his only collegiate campaign. Rose’s numbers paled in comparison to those of Beasley, but Rose had put his individual statistics aside in an effort to play team basketball and win games.
After months of debate, the Bulls made the hometown kid, Rose, the first overall pick. While Beasley seemed to be more NBA-ready than the young point guard, Rose was seen as a rare talent that had almost limitless potential. Rose possesses off-the-charts athletic ability and showed flashes of pure brilliance on both the high school and collegiate levels. But making the transition from college to the pros, especially after just one year in school, has been notoriously difficult for point guards throughout history. Hornets point guard Chris Paul is the exception that proves the rule, as even Utah floor general Deron Williams had a difficult time in his rookie campaign. It was expected that Rose would struggle this season and it was unclear how much time he would even log.
In a bit if a surprise move, Bulls head coach Vinny Del Negro gave Rose the start on opening night, giving the rookie 32 minutes of playing time. Rose responded by scoring 11 points, dishing nine assists and grabbing four rebounds in a Bulls win. That game set things in motion and Rose has been tearing it up ever since, improving with each game. Through ten games, Rose is averaging 19 points, five assists and five rebounds per game, his best performance to date coming on November 11th against Atlanta in a game in which he finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
What’s even more impressive is that Rose is shooting solid percentages all around (47 percent from the field, 36 percent from three and 82 percent from the line) and keeping his turnovers down (2.5 per game) despite handling the ball for the bulk of Chicago’s possessions. Just ten games into this young man’s career, the Bulls are already his team. Rose looks like he has one of the brightest futures of any player in this league and should sell tons of Chicago Bulls tickets along the way.
